Hi! I'm Rodney

Hi! I used to work as a newspaper printer. Now, I'm a member of IPI (the Information Physics Institute). My hobbies include reading, writing, listening to pop music, watching TV, the Internet and my laptop / smartphone, and light exercise.
I do a lot of writing. My personal website is my profile on ResearchGate (I'm not on any social media sites). There, you can read my science preprints (articles). The business website lists the latest book I've written ("From Scientific Curiosity to Utopia"). Most of my books are on Amazon but this one's by Eliva Press.

Distinguished and Famous people from Watsonia

🏉 Matthew Kreuzer

Matthew Kreuzer completed his secondary schooling at Loyola College in Watsonia before a long football career at Carlton. Over thirteen seasons he became a valued ruckman and teammate, later continuing with the club as a ruck coach. The coaching role formalised mentoring he had already begun during his final playing season, passing experience to younger ruckmen. His school connection places Watsonia in the years before senior football. A later Carlton visit involving Loyola's Indonesian sister school also brought that educational background back into contact with his professional sporting life.

⚾ Dennis and Fay Gilbert

Dennis Gilbert and his wife Fay helped build the junior programme soon after Watsonia Baseball Club formed in 1974. Dennis took on work ranging from uniforms and field maintenance to constructing dugouts, batting cages and other facilities. Later he ran the bar for many years, helping keep money flowing into the club as well as drinks into glasses. Several generations of the family became involved in playing and volunteering. The club's Dennis Gilbert Award recognises the same sustained work behind the scenes, preserving the name of someone whose contribution was measured in jobs completed rather than headlines.

🎓 Olive Zakharov

Olive Zakharov taught at Watsonia High School from 1966 to 1969 after returning to study while raising a family. Further teaching at Montmorency High School included student-welfare responsibilities, and she completed a qualification in educational counselling. Elected to the Senate in 1983, she brought that background to committee work on community affairs, employment, education and training. Her earlier jobs had ranged from factory work to fruit picking, experience she valued when discussing poverty and disadvantage. Watsonia’s connection is an actual classroom appointment in the years before counselling and parliamentary service became the more public parts of her working life.

📚 Bill Daniel

Bill Daniel entered the Jesuit novitiate at Loyola College in Watsonia in February 1947. Two years of spiritual study were followed by philosophy, and he later taught Greek there while pursuing university work on Homeric religion. He went on to become a theologian whose writing addressed social justice and medical ethics. Watsonia was therefore both a training place and a workplace, rather than a passing visit. His path from classical scholarship to moral theology retained an emphasis on careful reasoning, with students encouraged to examine several perspectives before deciding where they stood.
